IVF centre assured boy, girl born

Graver still, was the act of the medical centre, practising such techniques after it had been banned here years ago because of the low ratio of female to male births. The unsavoury incident would have remained under wraps, but for the fact that the woman delivered a baby girl instead.
Amrik Singh and his wife Rupinder Kaur of Canada in their complaint to civil surgeon, Jalandhar, said due to an infertility problem they had approached Vardhan Medical Centre to have a child through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) in 2005. They, however, alleged that the centre, not only promised them a baby, but a male child at that and demanded Rs 5 lakh for the same.
Kaur reportedly conceived and the centre, after conducting an ultrasonography (USG) test, was said to have confirmed a male foetus. The couple, who apparently returned to Canada soon after, discovered through USG tests there that Kaur was carrying a female baby, whom she delivered in 2006. The couple further alleged that on coming to India sometime back, they went to the owner of the centre with their complaint and also demanded their money back, but the owner seemed to be in mood to entertain them. more…
